INDIANAPOLIS -- When officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a shooting in Castleton on Sept. 19, they initially believed it was self-inflicted. Officers are now investigating the shooting as a homicide. According to a news release from the department, IMPD North District officers were dispatched to the 7500 block of Ivywood Circle on the call of a shooting at around 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 19. When officers arrived at the scene, they located a juvenile inside a home with a gunshot wound. The person was transported to a local hospital and initially was reported to be in stable condition. Aggravated assault detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The release said that as detectives began to investigate further, it was found to not be self-inflicted. The person who was shot in the incident was later pronounced dead. IMPD did not provide information on when the person died. Officials said that the Marion County Coroner's Office will release the name of the individual, as well as the exact manner and cause of death, once proper next-of-kin notification has been made. The shooting is now being investigated as a homicide. The release said that IMPD Detectives have spoken with a "person of interest and will be working with the (Marion County Prosecutor's Office on any charging decisions."
