FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Hundreds of medical conditions could be discovered at a life-saving pace thanks to new technology recently established in the Summit City. The first full-body MRI machine in Indiana has scanned its first several patients at Choice Imaging's clinic off Dupont Road after opening earlier this month. Reveal MRI allows the magnetic field to create images of the whole body's tissues, organs and any potential abnormalities, rather than scanning one limb at a time. Over 500 conditions can be detected by using Reveal MRI including aneurysms, appendicitis and cysts. In diseases like cancer, this local development could be vital for survival. Terry Bussen, vice president of physician relations and operations, said detecting cancer in the early stages may increase a patient's survival of the disease well above 80%. "Patients are in a lot of pain," Bussen said. " ... They can't lie [on the table] very long, so it makes it very difficult if a patient moves on the table, distortion comes into play." Reveal MRI can detect over 500 conditions. According to Choice Imaging staff, there are 60 other full-body M-R-I's across the country, most of them located in bigger cities like Chicago, Atlanta and Las Vegas. Choice Imaging is located at 1850 E. Dupont Rd. Along with MRIs, the clinic performs CT scans, X-rays and Ultrasounds.
