BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Though the weather may be gloomy, one local flower market is helping brighten up the day for strangers in the city of good neighbors. "Whether your pushing somebody that's stuck in the snow out of their parking spot from the night before, or you're giving away flowers, it kind of rounds out Buffalo," said Robert Booth, a manager with Maureen's Buffalo Wholesale Flower Market. Their market has been helping grow happiness in Buffalo for more than 27 years. They've become a Western New York staple for weddings, funerals, events, holidays and everyday flowers. "It's just good for the soul to be around them, to receive them," said Booth. "Maureen had decided everybody deserves flowers, so we really work hard to come up with ways we can give flowers." For the first time, their market is taking part of "National Petal it Forward Day," an idea to give away free flowers and to encourage others to pay it forward. "Take two, keep one for yourself, give the other one away," said Booth. "Whether its to your best friend, your wife, your partner, a complete stranger, someone you see on the street, it doesn't matter, give that bouquet away. We're trying to spread the joy." "It's pretty much a movement to surprise someone with flowers," said Davante Walker, a manager at the market. "It's just something of importance, something to bring the community together and you never know what someone is going through. It's just a good deed to pass something along every once in a while." The bouquets were placed in various locations in their neighborhood, including Fitz Books and Waffles, The Salty Chefs, McClelland Small Animal Hospital, Brothers Restaurant, Buffalo General's lobby, and Jacks Corner Cafe. "I'm sure there's going to be come people that will be very excited just to have something to take home." said Reese Fiato, a barista at Jacks Corner Cafe, "Little things go a long way, I think that type of general effect is usually something people really enjoy, it brings a bright spot to a day that might not be going too well."
