On the first day of early voting in Georgia, over 300,000 people hit the polls leading to a record-breaking turnout.  “With the record-breaking 1st day of early voting and accepted absentees we have had over 328,000 total votes cast so far,” said Gabe Sterling, chief operating officer in Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s office. “Over 300,000 votes cast today. That’s 123% higher than the old record for the 1st day. Great job counties & voters.” VP Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are both locked in a tight battle for Georgia, a swing state that will decided the election outcome.  Both candidates were active in the state on the first day with Team Harris-Walz hosting a block party and Trump making an appearance in Cobb County for a rally.  U.S. Representative Maxwell Frost, state Representative Tanya Miller, and Rep. Nikema Williams were all on site for the block party that took place in East Point. The block party featured speeches from each representative and food provided by Local Green.  Phillana Williams, director at Mayor’s Office of Film & Entertainment at City of Atlanta, shared thoughts with ADW on the massive voter turnout on the first day of early voting.  “We broke all kinds of records with over 300,000 people early voting today,” Williams said. “We know that’s a huge deal, and we’re excited to have this type of record-breaking numbers this early on the first day of early voting. It’s a testament of how important this election is, how the people, the culture understand how important this election is. And we all know what’s at stake here. We really know the importance of setting the tone. Georgia sets the tone, Atlanta sets the tone. We got a lot of work to do. We shouldn’t take this for granted, and think that it’s over because we have 21 days to go before November 5.  We must keep running these numbers up.” By A.R.
