A public school teacher and a police officer are among four people indicted for allegedly running multiple brothels on Long Island for about four years, officials announced Tuesday. A yearslong investigation led by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office determined that George Trimigliozzi, an 18-year veteran of the Suffolk County Police Department and Steven Arey,  a 26-year employee of the Islip School District, were part of a “criminal enterprise that profited from the systematic promotion of prostitution at two locations in Suffolk County.” All four members of the enterprise — which also includes its alleged leader, 60-year-old Frank Saggio, and his girlfriend, 53-year-old Dana Ciardullo — are accused of promoting prostitution “by hiring sex workers, collecting proceeds of prostitution from sex workers known as ‘house fees,’ and posting advertisements seeking patrons of prostitution.” According to investigators, Trimigliozzi and Arey served as managers at a building in Holbrook that was known as the American Girls Spa. Two other brothels at that same building — Spa “Suite 4” and Reiki for Healing “Suite 5” — were allegedly run by Saggio, while Ciardullo allegedly served as manager for a location in West Babylon known as the Tunnel of Love. “It is a sad day in law enforcement when a public servant is arrested,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said Tuesday when announcing the indictments, which he described as a “long-term pattern of organized criminal activity and a shocking betrayal of public trust.” Prosecutors said the investigation also uncovered that in March 2021 a sex worker called Trimigliozzi, in his capacity as manager of the brothel, to report that a customer had been robbed at the American Grils Spa and that they had already called 911. Trimigliozzi, who was on duty as a police officer at the time, “allegedly abandoned his assigned post in the Third Precinct without permission from the police department and drove at a speed nearing 90 miles per hour in his marked patrol car to the brothel in Holbrook,” the district attorney’s office said. He then allegedly falsified paperwork with the police department by not disclosing his unauthorized response to the American Girls Spa. All four defendants face charges of enterprise corruption and promoting prostitution. Trimigliozzi is also charged with falsifying business records, official misconduct and offering a false instrument for filing, while Saggio faces additional sex trafficking charges. Trimigliozzi was suspended without pay by the Suffolk County Police Department in August 2024 “for conduct unrelated to the charges in this indictment,” Tierney said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon. Arey, who teaches physical education at Islip High School, was placed on leave following his arrest, the Daily Voice reported. Saggio was held on a $500,000 bond, while the other three were held on a $50,000 bond. They are all due back in court on Dec. 9 and face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
