TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Shawnee County District Courts have pushed back the sentencing date for Amber Peery. According to court records, Peery's sentencing date has been pushed back more than a month. She is now scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 22. Peery's original sentencing date was scheduled for on Oct. 3. In August 2024, Peery was convicted for involuntary manslaughter, reckless aggravated battery and traffic infractions, after a crash resulted in the deaths of three Topeka children in 2022. On Sept. 26, 2024, Peery announced she is seeking a new trial. A judge is deciding whether to grant Peery’s motion. Shawnee Co. Sheriff encourages residents to register security cameras to help future investigations In October of 2022, Peery was driving a vanload of Girl Scouts on the Kansas Turnpike near Auburn when she made an illegal U-turn through the gap of the highway barrier. The action resulted in a crash with a tractor-trailer that killed three children and seriously injured a fourth. For more local news, click here.
