1 dead after police shooting in Roswell

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – The Roswell Police Department said a suspect was fatally shot by police just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday. They said officers tried to arrest 28-year-old Louie Joseph Archuleta when he pulled into the parking lot of a hotel on Military Heights Dr. Archuleta was wanted on several charges and was being surveilled by police.
Judge decides on pretrial detention for vehicular homicide suspect
Officers said Archuleta fled in the vehicle and crashed into another vehicle near the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Archuleta then fled on foot. Police said he was seen holding a handgun while he was driving and when he fled.
According to RPD, “During the foot pursuit, Archuleta’s actions resulted in multiple RPD officers firing shots at Archuleta..."He was hit by at least one shot and was taken to the hospital where he died. Police did not specify what happened during the foot pursuit.
No officers were injured. The other driver involved in the crash was not injured as well. New Mexico State Police are investigating.
