NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — University Medical Center is responding to plans for a one-day union nurses' strike. The nurses have scheduled the strike for Friday, Oct. 25. The nurses say hospital administrators have delayed contract negotiations and refused to answer their concerns about workplace violence and unsafe staffing. City of New Orleans to activate five more school zones, update signage LCMC Health, which owns UMC, responded on Tuesday by saying patient care will not be affected by the one-day strike. "This will not affect our operations. We have contingency plans. We worked out strategies for this. We will continue to provide the same great care that you've had at UMC for almost 300 years," said UMC President and CEO John Nickens. Contract negotiations between LCMC and the nurses have been going on since March.
