As part of the international cultural events initiative program, La Feria de Sevilla (Spain) is making its way to Coral Gables after spending five years at Key Biscayne. Focused on bringing five high-quality, international, and culturally enriching events to Coral Gables, the program can now count on the Seville Fair, and city officials had the opportunity to hear more of the March 8 fair during the Oct. 8 city commission meeting. In celebration of Coral Gables’ centennial, the event is set to highlight the cultural and architectural bonds that exist between Coral Gables and Spain, including the Sister City relationship between the two cities. The event would replicate the format and feature traditional events that take place in Seville, providing participants with an authentic experience. “We want to find events that are exceptional, and we also want to make sure we deal with consulates located within our city and have some sort of relationship with the city,” said Mayor Vince Lago. “Seville is our Sister City, so when this idea was brought forth and we had multiple meetings and sat down and had a conversation, I thought this was something that would bring a level of culture to our city like ‘El Dia De Los Muertos.” Taking place on Alhambra Circle from LeJeune Road to Ponce de Leon Boulevard, planned activities planned include live flamenco music and dances, tablados, classes to learn Sevillanas (the traditional dance of Seville), authentic Spanish food, horse carriage rides, Spanish vendors and classes on how to make paper flowers that women wear as headpieces. Attendees will also wear Sevillian attire, as is the tradition for those who attend the fair. Currently, more than 20 foreign government and trade offices are in Coral Gables, including the Spanish Consulate, its Tourism Office, Trade Commission and Office of Education. Celebrating its sixth edition in March, La Feria de Sevilla is set to benefit from a strong following with more than 2,500 people projected to attend the event next year, said Elvira Marcos Salaza, the director of the National Tourism Office of Spain. “What we would like to do is have a cultural approach towards the City of Coral Gables,” she said. “It has been located in Key Biscayne, and right now we think it has to grow bigger and the cultural approach will be here in Coral Gables, which is our sister city. We have been working in the last two years to do many other cultural programs, like for example with the Coral Gables Museum to learn a little better how the architecture of Coral Gables has been influenced by the City of Seville.” Related Posts:Consulates of Paraguay, Guatemala, Mexico move to…Coral Gables honors Miami TodayWhite Way lights to glow in Coral Gables againCoral Gables elected officials getting raises of 53% and upCoral Gables Mobility Hub weathers a design critiqueThe post Seville Fair moving its presentation to Coral Gables appeared first on Miami Today.
