(NATIONAL) — Looking for a spooky movie that will give you the chills? A new study reveals the scariest horror movies of all time, considering factors such as jump scares and fear-related words.
The survey considers jump count, jump scare, and scary meters that include how creepy, gory, and jumpy a movie is. Other factors included counting keywords such as evil, fraud, spooky, scream, and more. A dead meter was also taken into consideration when surveying horror fans.

The Haunting in Connecticut (2009): This movie follows a family that moves to Connecticut when their son is diagnosed with cancer to be closer to his doctors, only to find their new home is less than welcoming.

The Cleansing Hour (2019): Follows an exorcism after it takes a nasty turn. The Cleansing maxed out on "jumpy", "creepy", and "gory" Scare Meters and was described as a top hitter by those who took the survey.

[Rec] 2 (2009): The sequel to the original [Rec] movie, the sequel exceeds the original with more than 20 deaths and plenty of spooks.

Host (2020): This movie often ranks high in scare rankings, it follows a group of friends who hire a medium to hold a seance during a lockdown Zoom call and accidentally attract a demonic presence. Host has 20 jump scares.

Scream (1996): The first film in the classic horror franchise, Scream has 19 jump scares and a score of 8.2 in the "gory" meter. The story follows Sidney, who is terrorized by a masked killer targeting her and her friends a year after her mother's death.

It (2017): The movie adaptation follows an ancient evil presented as a shape-shifting clown who returns every 27 years.

The Beyond (1981): A young woman inherits an abandoned hotel in Louisiana but as she attempts to get it back up and running she discovers the building was built over a gateway to Hell. The movie has 27 jump scares and is ranked at 8 on the 'creepy' and 'gory' Scary Meter.

Evil Dead (2013): One of the most recent installments of "The Evil Dead" franchise, it follows five students who take a trip to a remote cabin and uncover an old book that awakens an evil entity.

The movie's premise follows main character Daniel in his new home, who hears a plea for help, leading him to seek out a paranormal expert to uncover the truth.
