MINOT, ND (KXNET) — One police officer in the Magic City is being recognized for helping someone in crisis. Minot police officer Jordan Wilkes was awarded an Employee Recognition Award after being anonymously nominated earlier this month for his efforts in helping a man at the Minot International Airport back in August. Wilkes, who has been with the Minot Police Department for over two years, says he responded to a call from airport security about a man who had missed his flight and had been struggling with mental health issues. "He had missed his flight in the morning, then got kicked off the plane. We essentially went there to do a welfare check on him, they were concerned. He had been in the bathroom for a very long time and overall just wanted him checked on, make sure he was okay," said Wilkes. How Minot Public Schools is budget planning for the future Wilkes says the man was not detained and was not a threat to anyone. He was able to help the man get his flight rebooked and offered him medical attention. While Wilkes says he was grateful for the recognition, he wants people to know he was just doing his job. "Making a difference and people recognize it and I don't expect any kind of reward. I recall very clearly, I went to the airport, a citizen called the police for our service, and I went there without question and aided them in the best of my ability and that's what I do every day I don't expect an award so it was very surprising when I got one," said Wilkes.
