Southern University football focusing on fixing slow starts on offense

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPOUD) — Every game this season for Southern University football has either come down to the wire or has been a blowout.
The biggest reason for that is the Jaguars' offense always gets off to a slow start, being outscored 41-6 in the first quarter this year. Southern is trying to find its footing on offense early with a tough Alcorn State team coming into town for homecoming.
This game has more weight to it than just being homecoming; the winner will take first place in the SWAC West. Head coach Terrence Graves said there isn't anything special the Jaguars have to do to move the ball in the first quarter, it all comes down to execution.
"You got to keep the chains moving, and coach Frederick says it all the time. You know, first downs, equal touchdowns. So, we got to just make sure that we convert and execute better. It's not something that you got to go and do in practice and all that. It's just an execution, and once we get that and iron that out, we'll be fine." Graves said.
