BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPOUD) — Southern University football currently sits in second place in the SWAC West after pulling off one of the most improbable comebacks in recent memory against Texas Southern. The Jaguars trailed by seven with 30 seconds left, then Southern safety Herman Brister III blocked a punt deep in Tigers territory, giving the Jaguars the ball at the 16-yard line. On the very next play, Southern quarterback Noah Bodden found Quay Davis in the endzone to send the game into overtime. Texas Southern got the ball first to start overtime and ended up missing a field goal. On the Jaguars' following possession, kicker Joshua Griffin sealed the win with a 34-yard field goal, 22-19. That win made Southern's homecoming game against Alcorn State this Saturday a lot more interesting. Both teams are undefeated in conference play, which means the winner will be in the driver's seat of the SWAC West and control their own destiny. Southern University vs. Alcorn State in Baton Rouge: Game time, how to watch The Jaguars are not treating this weekend like any other homecoming game. They are preparing like the SWAC championship is on the line. "I mean, these are games you dream of when you were kids. If you have to be motivated to come play, you shouldn't be playing football," said Southern linebacker Vincent Paige Jr. Southern is expecting a sold-out crowd for homecoming this Saturday. To help with traffic flow, they moved the game to a later kickoff at 6 p.m. The west side seats are already sold out, and limited tickets remain on the east side.
