FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man was arrested after a stolen trailer that provided shade to farmworkers was tracked in Fresno on Tuesday, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office announced. Deputies say they responded to the area of West Mount Whitney Avenue and South Hayes Avenue just outside of Riverdale for a report of a stolen agriculture shade trailer. These trailers provide cooling stations for farmworkers as they work tirelessly in the valley heat. Investigators learned the trailer had a GPS device, allowing them to track it to a commercial property near Ashlan Avenue and Valentine Avenue in Fresno. Detectives contacted 58-year-old Vernon Wells of Fresno and determined he was responsible for the theft. Deputies say Wells was arrested and booked on suspicion of auto theft, possession of stolen property, and vandalism. The Sheriff's Office says arrangements have been made to return the trailer to its owner. Anyone with any additional information about Wells is asked to contact the Fresno County Sheriff's Office at 559-600-3111.
