The rally came as the embattled mayor is in the midst of attempting to fend off a recall campaign against her and a budget crunch related to funds from the sale of the Oakland Coliseum. However, Thao's supporters were met with others who were in support of recalling the mayor. But supporters of the recall disagree and made their voices heard during the event. Mayor Thao argues that it is just a small group of people who want her out and that her removal will cause chaos. The two conflicting groups led to some heated moments at Tuesday's rally. KRON4 reached out to speak directly to Thao, but she was unavailable for comment.
