WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A 22-year-old man is being treated after an incident in the 3800 block of E. Edgemont. It started around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday. Kris Gupilan, a public information officer at the Wichita Police Department, said officers were dispatched to a disturbance and located a man who was pouring gas on himself and a home in the area. WPD negotiators and SWAT tried communicating with the man who had retreated inside. Police said the man came out, and officers deployed less lethal force. "To prevent him from escaping because we did have criminal charges at this time of the investigation, they deployed two rounds of less lethal, which were unsuccessful," Gupilan said. New information released in deadly officer-involved shooting northwest of Wichita The suspect retreated inside the home but eventually surrendered. Police said the man was rendered decon and transported to a facility for treatment. "The scene is contained, and we will be opening up the street here as soon as we're done," Gupilan said.
