The two words in sports that bring the most intrigue, anticipation and excitement are Final Four. The Colonial Valley Conference Championships has reached that level, with two games between four Colonial Division teams that over the years have shown they are championship caliber programs. Both games will be played at Hightstown High and here is a preview of each game. No. 4 Lawrence (10-4-1) vs No. 1 Notre Dame (12-1), 5 p.m. The Irish advanced with a hard-fought 2-0 win over West Windsor-Plainsboro South and Lawrence was taken to double overtime before the Cardinals squeezed past Princeton, 2-1. The regular season meeting on October 9th went to ND, 3-0 on a pair of goals by Ellie Marrone and one by Marie Conway. “We want to defend our No. 1 seed,’’ said Marrone. “I know we can do it and I have faith that we’ll pull through.’’ Marrone has been magnificent for the Irish with a team high 21 goals and 11 assists. Emma McVey has 12 goals, Clementine Bowden has six goals and eight assists as does Victoria Suschke. Marie Conway leads in assists with 14. During its six game winning streak the ND defense has allowed just one goal. ND coach Cheryl Harris knows facing Lawrence will be no easy task. “They have Caroline (Rotteveel) and she is amazing,’’ stated Harris, of the Cardinals and the state’s leading scorer. “Tess (Adolf), their goalie, is top-notch.’’ Rotteveel has been amazing in her senior season with 37 goals and 19 assists and she had the game winner in overtime against the Tigers. Since these two schools are mere blocks apart it has always been a rivalry and Lawrence would love to reverse the meeting of a week ago. Bella Scanella, who had the other goal in the Princeton win, has seven goals and five assists and Peyton Valentino has caged five goals. Adolf in the cage is a huge confidence boost for the Cardinals offense as she is very tough to score on. The Irish need to make the most of their possession, including corners, and control the tempo of the game. The defense has been up to the task all year and will need another huge effort. The Cardinals will be looking to make sure every possession is a positive one and find ways to score. The defense will be there and the transition game will be a key. No. 3 Hopewell Valley (12-2) vs No. 2Allentown (12-4), 7 p.m. This matchup has all the makings of a great game. Allentown has amped up the schedule to be tested come tourney time and Hopewell Valley with a nine-game winning streak will definitely be a test. Allentown won the regular season meeting 3-2 on two final period goals by Ella Sluder. “I know Hopewell is always a tough competitor and they will definitely be hungry for the win after our last regular season game against them,’’ said Kayla Peterson, the Redbirds coach. “It was a very close game and after a game so close we are prepared for this game to be intense.  We will have to come out strong and play our game the way we are capable of and work as a team to get the job done.’’ The Redbirds, who have won six of seven games and three straight over the Bulldogs, have been led by Sluder with 22 goals and 10 assists, Avery Gower has eight goals and nine assists and Janeen Rukab has nine goals, including four in the last three games. Hailee Ladu has eight goals and Kelsey Loughlin has seven goals. Kylie Elefante, the all-time saves leader at Allentown, has a 1.67 goals against average. “They are a strong well coached team,’’ said Pam Edwards, the Hopewell coach of Allentown. “We need to go out and play our best and leave it all out on the field.’’ The only two imperfections on the Bulldogs record are a pair of one-goal losses to Allentown and Notre Dame. Hopewell Valley has six players in double digits in points, Raina Jablonski leads with 17 goals and 14 assists, Sierra Chow has 16 and 13, Zoe Lawler has 14 goals and mine assists, Lillian Brennan has 10 goals and Sarah Daniels has 10 points. Theodora Milchanoski is in the cage and has 128 career saves. This will most likely be a close game from whistle to whistle as both teams have strong attacks and a credible defense. In games like this it’ll be the team that makes the least mistakes and capitalizes on its opportunities.
