ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The ABQ BioPark's Asia exhibit is being recognized for its excellence in design just one year after opening to the public. The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) has presented the zoo with its prestigious Exhibit Award. The expansion and renovation project started in 2019 and has been the largest addition to the zoo in decades. Costing $35 million, the habitat spans 4.5 acres and sets "new standards for animal care at the BioPark," according to the press release. Homeschoolers invited to ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden for Garden Homeschool Day The exhibit is home to animals like snow leopards, Malayan tigers, orangutans, and Steller's sea eagles. With the new design, guests are able to observe the animals while they engage in natural behaviors like foraging, climbing, and socializing. "The Asia habitat is a high mark for our zoo and for our community," said Mayor Tim Keller. "We'll continue to invest in creating world-class experiences that not only benefit Albuquerque families but support vital conservation efforts worldwide."
