SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — For people who have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, it can be hard to go to social events where everybody is drinking. Because of situations like this, a local woman decided to start a business where alcohol wasn't a factor. Shannon Ward stopped drinking alcohol over 4 years ago, and while it was the best choice for her, there is an aspect she missed. "I just felt like I was really missing out on that social aspect that I had had when I was drinking," Good NAtured owner, Shannon Ward said. Because of this, she decided to start Good NAtured. "It's one of a kind. We only serve nonalcoholic and alcohol-free drink options," Ward said. The 'third space' will offer a variety of different products… "I have a selection of South Dakota-made products, so the consumables would be from culvert ale, Songbird kombucha, and heart of the City and Forest Fresh. And then I have a few made products. My friend Sarah has some crocheted products in the store and then Anna Boscaljon has some flower serenade and she has some keychains in the store currently," Ward said. …and different events. "This whole area here is open for people. You can come and play games. You could come and read a book. You could come and have a book club. I'm pretty open to how the space gets used," Ward said. 2 injured with gunshots in central SF Sunday Which will also become a space for people to learn new trades. "We organized a class for folks that maybe didn't have any experience with woodworking to build the tables in the space. So we held classes over the month of September to build all the furniture that you see in the space," said Nate Boscaljon, who designed Good NAtured's custom furniture. While they aren't against drinking, they are excited to offer a safe space for those who don't want to drink. "It's nice to have a space because even though I still drink, it's still nice to not have the pressure to like still try to decide because if I have a couple of drinks out, but I had intentions to work in the shop that completely ruins my intentions for later in the day," Boscaljon said. "There's a sobriety spectrum. They maybe don't drink today for a reason, medicine or are pregnant., they just don't want to. Or they've made the choice to not drink ever again. And this kind of creates a place where all of those people can feel safe," Ward said.
