Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans is quietly becoming Beer Brewery Row, and a familiar name is joining the ranks. Abita Brewing Company is expanding to the Southshore, announcing an early 2025 opening of its second brewery location at the corner of Tchoupitoulas St. and 1st St. Abita Brewing Company President Troy Ashley says Abita New Orleans will be a modern brewery with true Louisiana vibes. “We will be doing something a little different at the New Orleans location,” says Ashley. “We’ll be brewing on a smaller scale, so we’ll have the freedom to experiment and develop innovative beers and offerings, which is really exciting.” The company’s Northshore location is at 21084 LA-36 in Covington. Visitors can now learn about the brewery’s history and brewing techniques, while exploring signature brews at either the flagship brewery on the Northshore or the new location on the Southshore. In addition to the brewhouse and tasting room, the Abita Southshore facility will be able to host events and community gatherings to support local projects. “Adding a brewery location in New Orleans just makes sense,” says Heidi Guerra, vice president of marketing at Abita. “We want people to have the opportunity to taste our beers where it’s most convenient for them and for a lot of Louisianians and visitors, that’s in the heart of New Orleans.” On Tchoupitoulas, Abita joins Urban South Brewery (1645 Tchoupitoulas St.), Port Orleans Brewing Co. (4124 Tchoupitoulas St.), and NOLA Brewing & Pizza Co. (3033 Tchoupitoulas St.). NOLA Distillery, featuring handcrafted spirits, is also at 3715 Tchoupitoulas St. Abita recently became the “Official Craft Beer of the New Orleans Saints.” Founded in 1986 in Abita Springs, Abita Brewing Company is Louisiana’s oldest and largest craft brewery. It is known for its premium beers like Abita Amber, Purple Haze, Andygator, The Boot, and more, touting water that flows from an artesian spring north of Lake Pontchartrain as the key ingredient – the same spring water that will be used at the Southshore brewery. “Water is the foundation of all our brews, and we are committed to our craft brewing principles and staying true to who we are, which means all of the beverages crafted at our Southshore location will be brewed with the same pure, artesian spring water as our Northshore location,” says Guerra.
