City of New Orleans to activate five more school zones, update signage

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The City of New Orleans has announced that five additional school zones will be activated in the area on Wednesday.
Starting on Oct. 16, city officials said the Department of Public Works will activate new school zone flashers at the following locations:
Southbound 2900 Paris Ave. at St. Leo the Great School
Northbound 2900 Paris Ave. at St. Leo the Great School
Eastbound Bienville Street. at North St. Patrick Street
Northbound 3900 Canal St. at St. John Lutheran School
Southbound 1700 Nashville Ave. at The Willow Middle/High School
New Orleans Police Department K-9 retires after seven years
According to the city, the additional school zones come as part of DPW's efforts to comply with a mandate that requires school zone cameras to operate only "one hour before and one hour after the beginning of the school day, and one hour before and one hour after the end of the school day."
City leaders said traffic beacons and signs in school zones across the area are also being updated and reprogrammed.
