Ending a five-month period without any homicides, a 19-year-old Jersey City man has died following a shooting in Greenville on Friday afternoon.According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, at approximately 5 p.m., Jersey City police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Garfield Avenue and Brown Place. There, the police found the victim, Kashyne Grant, with a bullet wound to the upper body. Grant was taken to Jersey City Medical Center. According to Suarez, Grant died yesterday morning. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the regional medical examiner’s office.Grant’s death breaks a five-month stretch without a homicide in Jersey City. To mark the accomplishment, last month community leaders celebrated “A Summer of Peace.” The killing comes at a time when homicides are down both locally and nationally. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this matter. No arrests have been made. Authorities are asking anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip.
