(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Zoo announced the passing of their beloved camel, Presley on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and extended condolences to the dedicated staff and community who loved him. Presley joined the zoo from St. Louis at one year old. In 2022, he was treated for a broken jaw at Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, followed by a broken toe. Despite the seriousness of the injury, Pueblo Zoo's veterinary team and CSU specialists successfully amputated the toe. After a year of recovery, he returned to his exhibit, delighting visitors. Presley unexpectedly passed away on Sept. 25, 2024. Pueblo Zoo said, "His loss is a profound one for our staff, who shared countless memories and forged deep bonds with him. Presley was more than just an animal; he was a cherished member of the zoo family, embodying the spirit of resilience and the joy of connection... He will be missed, but his spirit will forever remain a part of Pueblo Zoo." The cause of his death is still under investigation.
