DICKINSON, ND (KXNET) — Numerous firefighting crews are battling a new wildfire that broke out Tuesday afternoon in an area west of Medora in Golden Valley County. A view of the new wildfire. (Image: MesoMedia_YT) According to a Facebook update from Dakota Prairie Grasslands - U.S. Forest Service, the fire started on the Little Missouri National Grassland, in the Medora Ranger District. The fire is located north of I-94, one-mile east of Buffalo Gap and moving in a northwesterly direction. "U.S. Forest Service firefighters and Volunteer Fire Departments from Beach, Sentinel Butte, and Billings County are responding," according to the post. "Additionally, Helicopters from the Elkhorn Fire and a North Dakota National Guard Blackhawk are responding." The forest service asks that people limit travel in the fire area to allow for first responders to do their work. A spokesperson at the Golden Valley Sheriff's Department told KX News earlier Tuesday afternoon, "Everyone is out fighting the fire right now." This is a developing story.
