BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — An apparel brand represented by professional golfer Tiger Woods filed a trademark dispute against a Baton Rouge fan company. Both have tiger logos and provide gear for athletes. Here's what you need to know about the legal debate so far. According to court records, a trademark dispute between Sunday Red LLC and Tigeraire Inc. was filed on Sept. 26 in a Los Angeles federal court. Sun Day Red is a premium athletic luxury apparel brand with a name based on Woods' career. His mother encouraged him to wear red during junior golf tournaments, believing it symbolized power. Throughout Woods' career, he wore red on the final day of each professional golf tournament. Tigeraire makes clip-on fans for football helmets, construction hard hats and baseball caps. The name comes from the LSU Tiger mascot and "aire," a reference to fans. Sunday Red filed trademark applications for the Sunday Red Tiger Design Mark in July 2023 and publicly launched the brand on Feb. 12, 2024. Tigeraire was launched in 2020 and was patented on May 5, 2022. Months after Sunday Red launched its apparel brand, Tigeraire sent a demand letter accusing them of design infringement. Sunday Red tried to resolve the claim through negotiations. Tigeraire sent a Letter of Protest to the United States Patent and Trademark Office to block Sunday Red's registration.
