High school football: Mentor, Lake Catholic, Kirtland remain No. 1 in AP poll

Mentor, Lake Catholic and Kirtland remain the top-ranked teams in their respective divisions per this week’s Associated Press poll.
Mentor (8-0) garnered eight of the 15 first-place votes in Division I and 139 voting points to outdistance second-place Cincinnati Moeller (7-1), which came in with five first-place votes and 125 voting points.
Lake Catholic (8-0) received 10 first-place votes and 137 voting points to take the top slot in D-IV. Sandusky Perkins (7-1) is second with 105 points and Perry (7-1) is third with 95 points.
Kirtland (8-0) leads off D-VI with 10 first-place votes and 144 voting points to stay ahead of Coldwater (8-0), who had the other five first-place votes and 138 voting points.
Other area teams ranked in this week’s AP poll are: 8-0 Gilmour (ninth in D-III), 6-2 Benedictine (11th in D-III), 5-2 VASJ (15th in D-III), 7-1 Hawken (17th in D-III), 5-3 Kenston (18th in D-III), 5-2 Chardon (20th in D-III).
