SCITUATE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Scituate woman was arrested Monday night after allegedly crashing her car while intoxicated with her 10-month-old son in the vehicle. Jennifer Colon, 41, is being charged with the felony of neglect/endangerment of a child and five misdemeanor charges including, DUI, reckless driving, simple assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Officers responded to the Hope Furnace Road crash scene at approximately 6 p.m., where they say Colon was holding her infant son. Colon nearly fell over several times while walking with the child, and at this time the officer determined that she was intoxicated, according to Scituate police. Rescue personnel took the infant into an ambulance to be evaluated. Colon claimed to have had two shots of alcohol, and fell backwards on the ground while performing a field sobriety test. Officers and fire personnel attempted to help Colon to her feet, and she allegedly started kicking violently at them. Both the officer and fire official were struck several times and Colon was taken into custody. Colon then requested to retake the field sobriety test, and attempted to exit the police cruiser. She became aggressive toward officers and resisted being placed back in the cruiser. Colon suffered minor injuries from the accident and refused medical treatment. The infant was transported to Hasbro Children’s and did not have any visible injuries. After arriving at the police station, Colon continued to act aggressively toward officers and inquired about her 10-year-old son, who was later determined to be home alone in Scituate. Officers responding to the residence found the child to be in good health, and DCYF took custody of him and the infant. Colon was transported to Rhode Island Hospital after her arrival at the police station.   Categories: News, Rhode Island
