PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has announced a second scheduled meeting to discuss the Washington Bridge demolition. The meeting will take place this Thursday, October 17 at 6 p.m. RIDOT Director Peter Alviti will discuss the demolition process, and answer questions from residents in real time, according to a release. The second meeting comes after last week’s short meeting that was met with criticism from residents and officials. In a release from RIDOT, although demolition has resumed today, necessary nighttime demolition that involves louder work such as jackhammering will not begin until after Sunday, when the community is updated at Thursday’s meeting. A new two-step procurement bid will also open for the reconstruction of the bridge, which will officially close on December 11. RIDOT is asking companies to issue feedback on an RFP, while determining if the responses will result in better proposals from the companies. Feedback will then be included in an addendum to the RFP and posted on June 6, 2025. RIDOT will offer $1.75 million to unsuccessful companies to help cover the costs of their technical and cost proposal. RIDOT officials said they have no updates on an exact timeline or change in costs. To register for the meeting on Thursday, you can visit the link here. Categories: News
