CINCINNATI, Oh. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Logan Woodside will remember 2nd and 2 from the 37 yard line for a long time. “I literally blacked out for a moment. Which was cool,” said Woodside. “It was a culmination of a lot of different things. Just so much emotion and excitement.” That play was when the former Franklin County Flyer and Toledo Rocket threw his first touchdown in a Cincinnati Bengals uniform. Rookie Jermaine Burton ran up the sideline and caught the native Kentuckian’s pass then ran into the end zone. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in preseason game one this past August, Woodside was part of a late surge by the Bengals who needed a comeback to win their opener. Cincinnati fell short 17-14, but after preseason Woodside had a victory of his own. He led the team in passing during preseason and secured a spot on the practice squad as the third string quarterback. Delayed Dreams This season is one of redemption for Woodside. The Bengals drafted him in 2018. In the seventh round, Logan jumped for joy at home in Franklin County as Cincy selected him with the 249th pick. But, life took a turn for the worst. After he was drafted, Logan was arrested for DUI in Kentucky and after training camp he was cut. “Definitely made me aware of the type of person I want to be and that people are always watching,” said Woodside, who now has a wife, two children and a different perspective on life. Since he’s turned a corner, Logan has also been around the block in the NFL. Times spent in Nashville and Atlanta have molded him into a new player. Experiences helping his starting signal callers have made for great memories too. “Going to the AFC Championship game with the Titans. Going up to New England and beating Tom Brady in his last game as a Patriot,” said Woodside. Savoring the Seconds Life was going smoothly, but a missed opportunity in the Queen City haunted Logan. “I thought I burned the bridge there.” said Woodside. As the seasoned veteran pondered his next move he was growing nervous. “Right before the draft I was scrambling around a little bit waiting for a call,” said Woodside. But, the Bengals made any nightmares turn into a new found dream. Cincinnati was interested. “Coach Dan Pitcher the offensive coordinator called me,” said Logan. “Hearts beating a little bit. It’s pretty surreal honestly.” As the Bengals look to build a winning run after an early season slump, Logan is in the thick of helping his teammates any way he can. “I’m just super grateful to be back here. It’s been awesome being here,” said Woodside. “There’s never a day in this league that you can’t take for granted. I’m trying to be the best third string quarterback in the league right now.” Categories: Featured, Local News, More Sports, Sports Tags: bengals, Cincinnati, Football, Franklin County, NFL, toledo, woodside
