SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) - The Town of Summerville will host a weekend of spooky celebrations to officially kick off the 2024 Halloween season. Scarecrows on the Square Creativity will be on full display around Hutchinson Square until November 1st. Vote for your favorite scarecrows around the heart of Summerville to raise funds for Dorchester County Schools. Scarecrows are created by businesses, civic groups, individuals and schools. Votes are $1 each and will be collected at Geurin's Pharmacy, Simple Treasures, Cuppa Manna Cafe, and Wine & Tapas Bar. Officials say voting opens October 18 and ends November 1st. Proceeds support the Junior Service League of Summerville's School Supply Fund for Dorchester School Districts 2 and 4. Down the Rabbit Hole - Halloween Fest A family-friendly Halloween Festival inspired by Alice in Wonderland is scheduled for Saturday. Costume contests, Trick-or-treating stations, Mad Hatter Tea Party, Character meet-and-greets and more are anticipated to be at this event. "The primary goal of this event is to create a safe, entertaining space for families and individuals to celebrate Halloween while fostering a sense of community spirit and supporting local businesses," said event coordinators. The festival is scheduled for 12 - 6 p.m. and is free to attend. The event is at Brown Family Park at 300 Front Street. Ghostwalk - 'The ghouls are back!' The ghouls are back! Dress up in your best costumes for an evening of fall-friendly fun. The Junior Service League of Summerville is hosting its annual Ghostwalk event on Saturday from 6 - 9 p.m. The event features two guided tours - G, PG and a special treat from Flowertown Players. In addition to walking tours, guests can also enjoy entertainment, games, hayrides and food trucks. Advance tickets are $8 and $10 the day of the event. All tickets include access to all games, activities, and one guided Ghostwalk tour. The hayride tickets are sold separately for $8 in advance and $10 the day of the event. Children 3 and under are free. Games-only tickets are also available for those who do not want to participate in a Ghostwalk. Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 the day of the event. Proceeds go towards Dorchester Districts 2 and 4.
