ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Between gun trafficking, targeting the fentanyl supply chain, and investigating human smuggling operations, there's an agency operating in the shadows to crack down on illegal activity spilling across New Mexico's border. Special Agent In Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) El Paso Division, J.T. Stevens, joins Chris and Gabby this week to discuss the complexities of HSI missions. SAC Stevens shares details about the uptick in human smuggling stash houses, transnational criminal operations in New Mexico, and what HSI is doing to stop criminals. How successful are their missions? Are there enough resources at the border?  Those questions and more are discussed in the full episode above. Stevens also explains some of the misconceptions of HSI. "We don't ever want anyone to fear reporting criminal activity because of their immigration status because that's not what we're looking at," said Stevens. "If they want to report drug smuggling or human trafficking, like by all means please report that to us and don't worry about what your immigration status is because what we're looking at is the information they're providing."
