BOWIE, Md. (DC News Now) — It is homecoming week at Bowie State University in Maryland.  The festivities got underway Monday evening with a pep rally at the gymnasium on campus. Director of Student Engagement, Thomasina Boardley, said there are planned events every day this week as thousands of alumni will be headed to Bowie to enjoy the festivities. She said this week should be a boost for the economy as many hotels and restaurants will be packed. “This is huge for economic impact, and we enjoy being here in Bowie with our Mayor and we also enjoy having our parade that will be in Bowie town center and all the vendors and eating places and hotels will be packed for the weekend,” Boardley said. The Bulldogs of Bowie State will take on Bluefield State University on Saturday to battle it out on the gridiron for the football showdown. Bowie State senior, Samaya Johnson, said this week is going to be exciting and she can’t wait to make new memories. “It’s an exciting time for the school and our community and alum to come back and enjoy the campus and I am a Delta sorority and we are looking forward to our sisters to come to campus and I am looking forward to my friends and family coming as well,” Johnson said. School leaders said they expect more than 10,000 to visit campus this week and enjoy homecoming.  Boardley said she just wants everyone to enjoy themselves and have a good time. “This week is super exciting to have our alumni come back and our theme is off the chain and we are going to have exciting events all week kicking off with a pep rally Monday night," she said.
