MANHATTAN (KSNT) - Halloween is approaching, and two local businesses have been feeling the heat. Fall is the perfect time to head to the pumpkin patch, pick out some Halloween decorations and engage in some fall activities. However, for some, the weather can deter from all the fall festivities. In Alma, KS, the Little Munchkin Pumpkin Patch has a ton of activities like a petting zoo, jumping mat, and games, but until the week of Monday Oct. 14, the weather hasn't matched the time of the year. Kansas sheriff warns parents to check for registered sex offenders before Halloween KSNT 27 News spoke with the owner of The Little Munchkin Pumpkin Patch, Cori Meseke, about how the warm weather has affected their business. "The weather does play a big part in how business goes," Meseke said. "And so, since it's been so hot this year, it kind of puts people out of the mood. And so our first cool day was yesterday. It was a busy day." With the cooler weather on the way, the owner of A&H Farm, Andrea DeJesus said she believes the more seasonable like temperatures will bring people into the holiday spirit. "The public doesn't like to come out when it's over 90 degrees and hot," DeJesus said. "So, really glad it cooled off Sunday and looking forward to a wonderful week this week." New facility looks to help Manhattan area children Until Monday, Oct. 14, not only has the warm weather affected sales, but the product has also been affected. "With the heat, it adversely affected some of the pumpkins," DeJesus told us. "The pumpkins can burn just like we can when they're in the direct sunlight too long. When they're on the vine is usually not a concern because there's water flowing through them all the time and it keeps them cooler. But once they're picked, they do get sunburnt, and you can see it. A lot of times it's a lighter color or a white is what they turn. So it does damage the pumpkins."  For more local news, click here.
