KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A man is facing charges after he entered a south Kansas City church seeking help and allegedly stabbed a church member in the chest. Jackson County prosecutors on Monday charged Jarod A. Hill with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. According to court documents, Kansas City police officers responding to a stabbing just before 11 a.m. on Sunday at the First Church of the Nazarene at 118th and State Line Road. When officers arrived at the scene they located the victim who was suffering from a stab wound to his chest. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Leawood police investigating ‘strange’ burglary Monday morning Officers also found several church members on top for the suspect, who was taken into custody. Court documents say while Hill was being placed in the back of a police vehicle, he attempted to grab an officer's gun. Witnesses told police that it appeared that Hill had pitched a tent nearby and was upset that someone had spray painted the tent. The victim attempted to help Hill. Other church members told the suspect to leave or they would call police. Court documents say the victim was standing next to Hill when he put the victim into a headlock and pulled out a knife and began to stab the victim in the chest. They struggled over the knife and other church members helped to restrain Hill until police arrived.
