ERIE, Pa. (WIVB) -- Vice President and Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris took to the stage for her rally Monday night at the Erie Insurance Arena in Erie County, Pennsylvania. Harris spoke to an energized Erie crowd for roughly half an hour in her latest attempt to galvanize swing state voters ahead of Election Day on Nov. 5. Much of her speech focused on her plans to help the middle class and working families by implementing tax credits, bans on price gouging and expanding Medicare to help cover the costs of home health care aides for seniors. This was her first ever campaign visit to Erie and sources told WIVB News 4 that there were roughly 6,000 people inside the arena and another thousand outside. The Latest: Trump and Harris make appearances in Pennsylvania, the largest battleground state Monday night’s rally came just days after a New York Times and Siena College poll showed that Harris is polling ahead of former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump in Pennsylvania by three percent. Pennsylvania, being a battleground state with 19 electoral votes, is essential in the race for presidency. Political experts have called Erie County a bellwether region as its support often gives insight into who will win the presidency. Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, who was in attendance Monday night, echoed the same sentiment and said that if one wins Erie, they win the state and ultimately win the presidency. One speaker told the crowd that Erie voters have picked the president since 2008. Trump, who rallied in Philadelphia tonight in an attempt to sway battleground voters, was in Erie County just two weeks ago for his own campaign event on Sept. 29.
