ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) -- Five people were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out in a high-rise apartment complex in Alexandria on Monday afternoon. Within four minutes of receiving a call, crews responded to the multiple-alarm fire at the Olympus, located at 6301 Stevenson Ave. IAFF Local 2141 said when firefighters arrived, they found a well-advanced fire on the 12th floor of the 15-floor complex. While extinguishing the fire, a Mayday was declared by a disorientated firefighter, who was quickly found and assisted, the union noted. Crews were evaluating whether anyone would be displaced due to smoke damage. They would likely be at the scene for a few more hours. Two residents and three firefighters were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
