2 residents, 3 firefighters hurt in Alexandria highrise apartment fire

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) -- Five people were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out in a high-rise apartment complex in Alexandria on Monday afternoon.
Within four minutes of receiving a call, crews responded to the multiple-alarm fire at the Olympus, located at 6301 Stevenson Ave. IAFF Local 2141 said when firefighters arrived, they found a well-advanced fire on the 12th floor of the 15-floor complex.
While extinguishing the fire, a Mayday was declared by a disorientated firefighter, who was quickly found and assisted, the union noted.

Though the fire was under control by 4 p.m., significant smoke was still moving throughout the building. Crews were evaluating whether anyone would be displaced due to smoke damage.
They would likely be at the scene for a few more hours.
Two residents and three firefighters were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
