FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) on Monday released body camera footage from a deadly shooting involving an officer last month in Reston. That shooting happened in an apartment complex back on Sept. 16. Police Chief Kevin David said in a press conference releasing the footage, 33-year-old Sydney Wilson charged at a veteran officer with a knife. Officer Peter Liu was trying to make contact with her after police got a call for a welfare check on her. Jury: Former Fairfax County police officer not guilty of involuntary manslaughter in fatal shooting of shoplifting suspect When Liu arrived he knocked and identified himself, but she opened the door and shut it right away. FCPD said the officer is trained in crisis intervention and tried to keep knocking for several minutes. Two minutes later, she then opened the door again and slashed at him with a knife. She kept coming forward, slashing again and that's when the officer fired five times, striking her three times. The officer then called for help for her and for himself. He was bleeding after being slashed with the knife. Police gave Wilson CPR and gave her blood on the scene, but she was pronounced dead at a hospital. Officer Liu was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Davis said the shooting aligned with the officer's police training. Davis said that had a co-responder been there, they would have been in danger, too. Liu is performing other duties within the department and the internal investigation into this shooting is still underway.
