FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Central Valley residents can now track the state's wildfire prevention work following new tools that the California Department of Forestry and Cal Fire unveiled last week. State officials say that the first-of-their-kind dashboards will help residents track the state's wildfire prevention work. Along with the new tools, 700,000 acres of land were treated for wildfire resilience in 2023 and that prescribed fire more than doubled between 2021 and 2023.  A device to help firefighters save lives came from Fresno State According to state officials, for the first time, all the fuel management projects are being tracked in one place, on one map. The new updated tools include an updated Interagency Treatment Dashboard and a Fuel Treatment Effectiveness Dashboard. State officials add that the updated Interagency Treatment Dashboard is led by the Governor's Wildfire and Forest and Resilience Task Force. It now covers data from 2021 to 2023, showing the acres of completed wildfire resilience work. According to officials, the Fuel Treatment Effectiveness Dashboard by Cal Fire tracks how wildfire prevention projects have helped shield communities and landscapes from wildfires. With over 700,000 acres of wildfire prevention work, state officials highlighted the investment in wildfire resilience, adding additional state firefighters to Cal Fires ranks over the next coming years and expanding the largest aerial firefighting fleet, which includes seven C-130 Hercules air tankers. Fresno is one of the locations the aircraft is assigned to.
