FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- A Manassas man was arrested and charged after police said he tried to set fire to gas pumps outside of a Sheetz in Fredericksburg on Friday. According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, two officers responded to a Sheetz at around 2 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 after the gas station's management reported a man who had trespassed on the property the day before was back and trying to set items on fire in the parking lot. The officers initially did not find the suspect once they got to the gas station, but while one of the officers was talking to a witness, they saw a man matching his description walking towards them. 76-year-old Amelia man thrown from motorcycle, killed in Chesterfield The two officers began to approach the man, who the ran towards the gas pumps and grabbed a nozzle with a lighter in his other hand. According to police, the officers quickly grabbed the man's arms and he dropped the nozzle, but he resisted their arrest and tried to escape their grasp. The man was eventually detained by the officers and identified as 40-year-old David Rodriguez of Manassas. He has been charged with arson, two counts of vandalism, trespassing after being forbidden, shoplifting, obstruction of justice and property damage.
