NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — A man was taken to the hospital on Monday after falling overboard near Black Point, just north of Scarborough Beach in Narragansett. The man was fishing alone in a small fiberglass boat when he fell into the water, according to Senior Chief Ryan Burger with the U.S. Coast Guard. However, he believes the man was not wearing a kill switch lanyard, which caused the engine to continue running. (Courtesy: Ron Sawicki) A 911 caller reported seeing the man in the water while the boat was "spinning out of control." The Coast Guard, and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, helped stabilize the boat and tow it back to the state pier. A search team remained on the scene to look for any additional victims. Burger said the man was taken by EMS to South County Hospital, and his condition is currently unknown.
