SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- It was just over a year ago when the first tenant of the Steel District development moved in. The three restaurants on the ground floor of the office tower will open this month. Dahlia Kitchen + Bar and Big Sioux Burger will open Tuesday and Ironwood will open Oct. 29, according to a news release from SDR Hospitality, the company that will oversee the restaurants. Combined, the three locations can seat at least 300 guests. The restaurants include one focused on Latin-inspired entrees, a second with a burger focus and the third featuring a classic steakhouse menu. Candy and costume drive in Rapid City Dahlia is described as contemporary Mexican restaurant and bar. The restaurant is named for Mexico's national flower. The owners and managers highlighted three freshly made guacamoles and five different kinds of tacos. The restaurant will also have 225 different tequilas. Breakfast will be served daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Big Sioux Burger will seat 79. The beverage line-up includes craft beers and cocktails. The bar in the Big Sioux Burger. Elegance is how owners and managers describe the Ironwood. The two-story restaurant can seat 129 indoors and 28 on the riverfront patio. The menu includes grilled oysters, steak tartare and house-made sauces and butters. Seafood options include grilled octopus and lobster ravioli. The three restaurant owners are Josh Thoma, Kevin Fitzgerald an Nick O'Leary who own and operate Smack Shack and Burger Dive in the Twin Cities. SDR Hospitality will oversee operations of the restaurants. The Steel District development includes office space and retail space. Pasque Boutique and Alcove are two retail spaces which opened in early September. Chris Thorkelson, president and CEO of Lloyd Companies which owns the Steel District, said in a Sept. 6 KELOLAND News story that Canopy Hotel was expected to open around Nov. 15. The Steel District development broke ground on Aug. 18, 2021. The space was home to Sioux Steel for many years before the company moved the location in Sioux Falls to Lennox. During its final years in the location, Sioux Streel mainly stored steel at the site.
