INDIANAPOLIS — A violent weekend led to four homicides around Indianapolis including a shooting that left a man dead inside a car on Indy's east side. That incident was caught on camera by at least one home surveillance camera. Neighbors reported hearing an argument followed by gunshots. Video cameras confirm that description, but it’s still not clear who committed the crime or why it took place. One video shared by a neighbor didn't show the shooting, which was just out of view, but there was clearly an exchange of words before the gunfire. The driver of a car then slowly drifted to a stop and died in the middle of the street. While the video did not show any suspects run or drive away, police hope others in the neighborhood might have different videos to share. "There are no known suspects yet," said IMPD Captain John Arvin. "That’s why we are hoping that the door cam video can maybe provide a vehicle that fled the scene or person that was seen fleeing the scene. That video is going to be very important." IMPD investigating death of man found downtown Police were called to the neighborhood near Roy and Franklin roads a few minutes after midnight early Monday morning and found the victim dead in the driver's seat of the car. With no witnesses to the shooting, police don't know what motivated the killing and are asking for the public's assistance in solving the case. In addition to that killing, on Friday night a man was found shot to death inside a car at a tow lot on the near south side. Early Saturday morning, another man was shot and killed in a wooded area on the west side. Around the same time, a man was killed during what police described as a gun battle between vehicles in downtown. "The interpersonal conflicts where people have some kind of dispute and it leads to gun violence is troubling," said Reverend Charles Harrison with the Ten Point Coalition. There have now been at least 166 homicides so far this year. 1 critically injured in shooting on Indy’s near east side While that number is less than the last few years on the same date, Rev. Harrison points out it still puts the city on pace for 200 total homicides for the fifth year in a row. "This may be the new norm for the city and that is really troubling," said Harrison.
