(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A teacher at Jenkins Middle School made good on a promise on Friday, Oct. 11, and allowed students to shave his head, after challenging them to donate to a good cause. According to Colorado Springs School District 11 (D11), 7th-grade teacher Mr. Kocher challenged his students to a friendly competition: the class that brought in the most donations for Jenkins Middle School’s Care Closet would get to shave his head. The Care Closet, a program dedicated to supporting families in need, is stocked with thousands of donations from students, families, and staff. From clothing to hygiene products, the district said the care closet is available to any Jenkins family needing a little extra support. With the added motivation from the competition, D11 said Jenkins students rallied together, donating more than ever to their first care closet. "The students' overwhelming response was a true testament to the generosity of the Jenkins Jaguar community and their eagerness to help those around them," said D11. "In just a few short weeks, over two thousand items were donated to stock the care closet, benefiting Jenkins families in need." So, on Friday, Mr. Kocher took his seat for the big shave.
