BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's takes place on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Park at River Walk. Heather McCarthy, an organizer for Saturday's walk, joined 17 News at Noon to discuss the event and its importance in supporting people and families in their ongoing battle with Alzheimer's disease. 7th annual ‘Running for Angels’ 5k The event itself is a fundraiser aimed at providing funding for Alzheimer's care and research. McCarthy said one of the beneficiaries of the fundraiser is a hotline for people who need help -- 1-800-272-3900. McCarthy said it is open 24 hours a day with staff to answer and respond to calls for help. Participants will receive a color-coded Promise Garden flower to represent their connection to Alzheimer's disease. Registration begins at 8 a.m. An opening ceremony begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Registration is open. You can register for the event at this site.
