ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The exchange of currency for goods has been happening for thousands of years but the way money is presented is always changing. The Albuquerque Coin Club (ACC) is holding a coin show next month. The former president of the Albuquerque Coin Club Phil Vitale came by to talk about Trade Dollars. They are silver dollars that, between the years 1873 and 1885, had an additional .014 ounces of silver in them to compete with Mexican currency, which Chinese traders preferred. The coins were made exclusively for trade with Asia. "The government made 36 million of these between 1873 and 1885," Vitale says. The next ACC coin show will be between November 8-10 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. More information is available on the ACC website.
