RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- With 22 days remaining until Election Day, an important deadline is coming up. Tuesday, Oct. 15, is the last day for Virginia voters to register for the upcoming election.   If you want your vote counted immediately, you'll want to register or update your voter information by Tuesday, Oct. 15.    You can register online or at one of the Virginia Department of Elections voter registration offices. You can also check the status of your voter registration online if you're unsure if a change is needed.   If you miss Tuesday's deadline, you can still register to vote up until Election Day on Nov. 5. However, you'll need to use a provisional ballot, meaning the ballot will first need to be approved by the local electoral board before being counted. You’ll receive confirmation from the board about whether or not your ballot was approved. Registrar offices are closed Monday, Oct. 14, because of the holiday, but you can still register or update your information by visiting the Virginia Department of Election's website. Many other places to register to vote in-person are closed on Monday, Oct. 14, including the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and some public libraries. You can, however, register in person at the DMV or a public library after the holiday, after which you'll cast a provisional ballot. To be able to vote, you must prove you’re a U.S. citizen, a Virginia resident and 18 or older. Check the Virginia Department of Elections’ website to find the best place for you to register and what you’ll need to do so.
