WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Autumn activities were aplenty in Woonsocket as Northern Rhode Island’s largest fall festival celebrated its last day. After a weekend of festivities, the team behind Autumnfest put all the stops to organize the annual parade on Columbus Day. “My granddaughter’s going to be a cheerleader marching in the parade, so I actually came from Connecticut to watch her,” said Eugene Gauthier. “Just the rides and the fun and a lot of people. It’s my son’s actual first time being here, being big. He used to come when he was a baby but he got to ride the rides and this was his first time seeing the parade,” said Kellielyn Bianco. Each year, the festival draws thousands of people to Woonsocket to enjoy art vendors, food, music, and more. “I’m actually surprised, I thought with the threat of rain we’d have less people out here on the parade route, we actually have about the usual amount on the parade route. So it’s great to see everybody here,” said PR Media Coordinator for Autumnfest Joe Callahan. “We got the parade coming by, and it’s not raining so we’re happy about that and we’re expecting sun this afternoon, so expecting a very good end to Autumnfest this year,” he said. The parade ran Monday morning, and festivities at Autumnfest will officially wrap up around 6 p.m. “We have a wrap-up meeting at the beginning of November, then most people take the holidays off and we start again in January,” said Callahan. “When January comes around, and the first email goes out, the ‘hey we’re getting together get ready for net year’ everyone puts their hands together and says ok. Let’s get started,” he said. The event schedule for the last day of Autumnfest can be found here. Categories: News
