CONCORD, NC — Khalid Williams is still reeling from the loss of what he says are priceless items after his storage unit was broken into.  “I had to come to grips within the first, I guess, 5 to 7 days being very emotional, knowing that unless they somehow were able to recoup everything that was taken from me. Khalid, like, you’re just not going to see some of these things again,” Williams said.  Williams said his unit and 18 others were broken into at the Public Storage on Derita Road in Concord.  He said  thousands of dollars worth of his property was stolen including rare baseball cards, collectable comic books and several gaming systems.  Williams said the property in the unit was insured for only five thousand dollars leaving him searching for answers on who is now liable for his stolen property.  “So there’s a lot of questions none have been answered,” Williams said. We reached out to Public Storage about the issue and they said they had no comment.  We also took our concerns to an attorney.  Attorney Shawntae Crews says in cases like this, often the liability could be on you unless the storage unit company fails to properly secure the unit.  She offered this advice.  “So it’s best to have an attorney review a contract, review the contract with you. Read it yourself first and whatever you don’t understand, you can ask an attorney,” Crews said.  As for Williams now he’s left without his belongings and even more valuable answers.  “Up until now, up until today, I’ve never received a follow up call. I’ve never received, even just the most  basic of answers.”
