NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — The average person spends about six hours on social media daily, and there's a negative correlation between scrolling and mental health. In a Media Consumption Trend Report, Talker Research surveyed people to see what "media consumption looks like from a generational perspective, and what impact media has on our everyday lives, including our mental health." In the survey, it was revealed that Gen Z spends the most time scrolling on media, and is the most likely to spend 15+ hours a day on their screens. Respondents believe they "lose" about three days every month just scrolling online. Things to do around town: October 14-20 A link was also found between consumption and mental health: older people were more likely to say their mental health is excellent or good compared to younger generations because they spend the least amount of time on social media. Gen Zers even agreed, saying that they spend too much time consuming content — and that their mood is often negatively impacted by it. This isn't the only survey with this data. The BePresent 2024 Digital Wellness Report stated that 83% of Gen Zers feel they have an unhealthy relationship with their screens. The survey also looked at what kind of media is being consumed and found that only 14% of Gen Z and 20% of millennials have cable — they opt to stream Netflix and Amazon Prime instead.
