Editor’s Note: The above video shows KXAN News’ top morning headlines from Monday, Oct. 14, 2024. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Grammy-nominated Austin rockers, Spoon, will take the Longhorn City Limits stage this Saturday ahead of the much-anticipated Texas vs. Georgia matchup. The band will launch into their set at 4:30 p.m., according to a Texas Athletics press release announcing the performance. Led by original members Britt Daniel and Jim Eno, Spoon first made waves in the 1990s, before enjoying a run of five straight top 10 albums. “Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World, and we couldn’t be more excited to have Austin’s own iconic Spoon making their debut LCL appearance before an epic SEC football showdown,” UT Athletics Director Chris Del Conte said in the release. “Between our top-5 game and F1 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas, the sporting world’s eyes are all on Austin, Texas, this weekend, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by also showcasing some of the very best Austin music here on the Forty Acres.” Celebrating more than three decades in the business, Spoon won't be the only hometown musicians hitting the stage. Austin Music Hall of Famer DJ Mel will kick off the afternoon at 2 p.m., followed by Hard Proof at 3:15 p.m. A 10-piece collective, Hard Proof meshes funk with jazz, and features members of the Black Pumas, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, Spoon and other groups. Admission to the concert is free and fans who do not have tickets to this Southeastern Conference (SEC) matchup will be able to watch the game on the LBJ lawn. Other performers this season have included country stars Midland, Tanya Tucker and Pat Green, along with West 22nd, indie rockers and UT students who recently debuted on the ACL Fest stage. Throughout the performances, fans ages 21 and over can also check out the Still Austin Music Lounge, the Tito’s Tailgate in front of the LBJ Fountain and Pinkerton’s BBQ.
